Fluoropolymers are used for copper-clad laminates (CCL), the key material in printed circuit boards. Fluoro substrates are flame retardant and have excellent dielectric properties. Common uses are high-frequency circuits for base stations and automotive millimeter wave radars.

Material for CCLs (copper-clad laminates)

Required characteristics

- Dielectric properties

- Heat resistance

- Solder resistance

- Low water absorption

Daikin Solutions

Daikin’s Fluoropolymer POLYFLON PTFE D-Series is an aqueous dispersion of Poly tetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) used to impregnating or coat a substrate such as glass cloth. Fluoropolymers with low water absorption suppress rust and slow the performance deterioration of copper foils, even under high temperature and high humidity conditions.

Waterproof / moisture-proof treatments for printed circuit boards

Required characteristics

- Moisture resistance

- Quick drying

- Flame retardance

Daikin Solutions

Malfunctions from water wetting can be prevented by using Daikin’s OPTACE to form a thin film layer on the surface of a printed circuit board (PCB). Daikin’s OPTACE conformal coating can be applied easily and safely within the PCB manufacturing process.
